Discovered by Arthur R. Sieting in 1947 or 1948 while working his field. He heard the cultivator blades strike metal and upon locating the object, it turned out to be heavier than suspected. His brother-in-law saw the object and took it to Michigan State University. In 1964 Mr. Sieting donated it to the university collection.
