As an ancient land, China has one of the earliest and most complete records of meteorite falls. The earliest recorded Chinese meteorite, Xiaxiau in Shanxi Province, dates from 2133 B.C. Unfortunately very few early Chinese meteorites exist in collections. Today the Meteoritical Database kept by The Meteoritical Society lists 223 approved Chinese meteorites. Our former display featured a dozen different Chinese meteorites and their stories.
