A single 50 kg stony meteorite fell on July 31, 1986 at 11:00 am in Wuan County, Hubei Province after detonations were heard. The meteorite exploded just above a valley, southwest of the village. At that time a teenager was pasturing his cattle on the mountain side. The explosion horrified the cattle, and the teenager ran to see what had happened. After reporting to the village master, numerous broken pieces were collected and carried to the village's warehouse. Then the event was reported to the county, city, and finally to Beijing. The largest known specimen is held by the Beijing Planetarium. It has a rich deep brown color and a multitude of metal flecks.
